The Mechanical Engineering programme provides a strong base in the Mechanical Engineering with a well-established balance between theory and experiments during the four years of study. The curriculum consists of a good mix of general courses as well as core Mechanical Engineering courses.
The programme also contains a compulsory Industrial Training attachment after semester 6 for a period of not less than 12 weeks. The idea of this attachment is to enable you to gain first-hand experience in industry as well as an insight to how theories are put into practice in the real engineering situations. This short attachment in industry was beneficial as it provides the intellectual challenge to you especially in the final year and when carrying out your final year project.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Hons) programme can work as mechanical engineers in a broad area of applications, which include industries such as automotive, power plants, chemicals, processing, aerospace, computer, machine tool and many others. Mechanical engineers are also engaged in a variety of activities including design, manufacturing, research, development, testing, construction, operation, sales, management, consulting and teaching.
