    Department of Chinese Studies of Southern University College is where traditional Chinese scholarship, Western Sinology and today’s Chinese Studies meet. It is going globalized and localized, being interested in studying Chinese society, ethnicity, language, and culture of Southeast Asia. Students of Master of Arts in Chinese Studies are free to use their cultural sources and develop their own interest and perspective to conduct research in a wide range of is topics of study. They can engage research and study of ancient or modern classics, overseas Chinese culture, or even creative writing. The M.A. Admission is open for application in December 2015 and the programme begins in April 2016. As a perquisite to graduation, students are required to complete 15 credits (equivalent to 3 courses), including 6 credits of course modules (Required Courses), and 9 credits of research-based Thesis.

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelors
    i. A Bachelor’s Degree with minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent

    ii. A Bachelor’s Degree not meeting CGPA of 2.75, but with minimum CGPA of 2.50 with senate approval

    iii. A Bachelor’s Degree not meeting CGPA of 2.50 with at least five years of relevant working experience.

    All above requirement with a research proposal of 3000 characters in Chinese, or 1500 words in English. The proposal should include research purpose, methodology and references, etc.
